We are sitting at the top of the hill of this adoption rollercoaster ride… we have been clicking slowly up, up, up through the spring and summer as we filled out paperwork, got things notarized, made copies and tried to save money. Finally, all is submitted to the agency, and we’re about to head down the hill of home study meetings, dossiers and fund raising!
Speaking of fund raising, we are in the midst of planning and gathering items for a giant community garage sale/bake sale on October 20th in the parking lot of a church down the road. Happily, my house is overrun with stuff already, some of which has been priced. We are blessed to be part of a several large homeschool groups and a wonderful church, and we are hoping for a huge sale to get over the first big financial hump. We have about $3000 left to raise to be at the point of getting a referral!
The logistics of this garage sale are a bit overwhelming. All the items have to be priced, sorted and gotten ready to transport to the church on the morning of the sale. We have an average sized house, and it’s already filling up with stuff so we’ll be starting to store things in the garage soon! The sale will start at 8:30am, and everything I read says to be ready an hour ahead of time for the serious garage salers. This means that we will need help at 7am or before, loading up things and transporting to the church. We certainly don’t mind getting up that early, but I hate to ask other people to! Also, we have to find some tables. It’s going to be a bit crazy, but it will all come together. God has given us many good friends to help.
Where we are in the process:
Soon, we should be hearing from our agency about proceeding with the home study. That will take some time to complete, but once completed, we’ll be able to apply for grants. We would love to have the referral and be ready to travel late spring/summer of 2013.
We are grateful for every dollar that helps bring our little boy home. If you feel led and are able to donate you can click here. Thank you!
